POLOKWANE – It was all hugs and smiles from Noorderland High School learners when the school’s principal, Arrie Bouwer returned to the school on Monday for the first time after recently undergoing an operation during which his leg was amputated.
Bouwer has not yet returned full-time to his job, but he says he is ready to be back in the principal’s chair.
Attending assembly, Bouwer said he was very happy to be back at school.
“And I am glad the doctors got rid of the knee that was causing me so much pain and discomfort,” he said.
In 2010 Bouwer underwent a knee replacement, but after the replacement his troubles got worse. The knee became septic and he experienced a lot of pain. The result was the amputation of his leg. Leonard Mathaba, one of the learners who was happy to see Bouwer back at school said they were happy that he was doing fine.
Alfred Rahlogo, chairperson of the school governing body, was also there to welcome Bouwer back. “We glad that you are recovering well, and that you will soon be back at the school full-time”.
