US author, speaker motivates learners

POLOKWANE – Professor Khalil Osiris, an internationally recognised motivational speaker visited the city on Friday, where he met with learners from Mitchell House and Pepps Polokwane College. Osiris motivated and encouraged the learners to be at their best and to stay away from criminal activities, as he had spent 20 years in prison.

Osiris is an author and teacher from the US. He obtained his bachelors and masters degrees from Boston University while he was in prison. He transformed his life and emerged from prison with a deep understanding of how to use personal crisis and challenges as opportunities for self-improvement.

He is the founder of the Martin Luther King Day Alliance, a non-profit organisation dedicated to strengthening the cultural and economic ties between South Africa and the US through educational, faith-based, and social entrepreneurial initiatives.

Osiris told the learners to learn to be positive thinkers. “Your whole future is determined by how you think about yourself and your life. Be positive about life and define your values. Focus on school and do not let negative friends have a bad influence on your life because any small incident can get you to prison, and trust me that is no place for anyone to live in. Focus on your studies, your future, your dreams. Use your thoughts, feelings and choices to determine your actions and achieve your goals,” said Osiris.
