POLOKWANE – Eagle’s Nest Christian School established a foundation for farming model during a teachers training session called the Foundations for Farming (FFF).
The training session included learners, teachers and principals from Eagle’s Nest, Jabez Christian Academy, Mitchell House Preparatory School, The Kings Court and St. Francis Catholic School.
The Foundations for Farming training programme aims to teach teachers, principals and learners to be good stewards of the Lord and serve to be a message of hope, to be on time, add standard to daily living and being with joy with Jesus Christ as the main foundation of this initiative.
Mac van den Berg, principal of Eagle’s Nest explained: “Foundations for Farming has two categories. In one, learners are taught how to provide crops and poultry by using as little resources as possible, for example the compost generated by the poultry is then used for planting food crops. The other category is where teachers are trained to become trainers of Foundations for Farming.
“These trainers can even be sent around Africa as the foundation is not only found in Limpopo, but is a national phenomenon. In fact, it is an international initiative,” said Van den Berg.
He said one of the main purposes of the programme was to teach people to provide food for themselves and help to prevent natural disasters such as starvation.
He said schools from across the country participated in the project. He said Eagle’s Nest also attended a national seminar earlier this year.
