POLOKWANE – Polokwane Animal Lovers (Pal) and the Northern Upper Town (Nut) Community Policing Forum raised funds for the anti-poaching organisation, Track and Conservation from Warmbaths in October last year. To aid the anti-poaching unit, Pal and the Sterkloop Tackle and Petshop hosted a dog show at Sterkloop Pavilion conference and function facility in October 2013.

Pal specially trains dogs to “track” down poachers. Pal together with Nut handed over tracking dog equipment and dog food to the organisation duing an event which was held at Sterkloop Pavilion on Saturday.

According to the spokesperson for Nut, Peet Hartman, the specially made collars were made and ordered in Hungary and Nut is very excited to be involved in this programme.

Pauline Sher, the spokesperson and organiser for the Pal group said there were many dogs that needed care and they were committed to getting these animals good homes. “Just looking at the good work that people in the anti-poaching team are doing. That is what we are all about and we all stand together to look after animals both in the wild and domestic,” she said.

Gavin Smith from the anti-poaching unit said they were grateful for the assistance they have received and said every bit helped in the fight against poaching and the tracking and prosecution of poachers. “These animals do not have a voice and it is up to us to be their voice when they get killed for the benefit of making money,” Smith said.
