Gerrit Venter making progress, doctors say

Duroc Foods sales manager Gerrit Venter, who was attacked and beaten with a bar of angle iron by an employee, has regained consciousness and even spoken his family for a short while.

POLOKWANE – Duroc Foods sales manager Gerrit Venter, who was attacked and beaten with a bar of angle iron by an employee, has regained consciousness and even spoken his family for a short while.

This follows after he sustained a broken nose and cheekbones as well as a skull fracture, and was airlifted to a hospital in Pretoria shortly after the attack last week.

Venter’s daughter, Mariska Vogel, said her father would undergo tests late today (Thursday) to decide whether he could undergo surgery.

She said the doctors told her that he was making good progress.

Venter was attacked, by the same employee he had earlier reprimanded for allegedly using the company’s washing machine to wash his own clothes.

The employee was arrested and will face a charge of attempted murder when he appears in the Polokwane magistrate’s court later this month.
