Leading from the front: Rotary 100

POLOKWANE – Bruno Tschudin (68) is one of the founding members and current president of Rotary Club Pietersburg 100.

He has been part of the Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 for the past 27 years.

Tschudin’s duties as president include coordinating the club and all projects the club runs, as well as overseeing the finances and maintaining the numbers of new members.

Rotary is a section 21 non-profit organisation. “We try to help underprivileged communities. We support schools, homes and individuals with drilling water and feeding schemes,” he says.

His wife, Jenny is involved with the Rotary Annes, a club that supports smaller projects like nursery schools and old age homes.

Around 27 years ago, there were two Rotary clubs that held meetings during lunchtime and those who could not attend these meetings formed a club that met in the evening. And that is how Rotary Club of Pietersburg 100 started, Tschudin explains.

“I was working very close with the community and saw their short comings. I was always involved in helping the underprivileged. The Rotary made it more meaningful,” he says.

The expression on people’s faces when the Rotary Club hands over much needed items such as food, clothes or even a borehole, makes his work worthwhile, according to Tschudin.

A father of three children, he says he enjoys the friendships in the Rotary the most, “to see a combined interest in helping the less privileged. Unfortunately, there is bad with the good. When you see there’s an enormous need and it is impossible to help everyone. The helplessness you feel is terrible.”

His message to the community is quite simple. “Forget about little problems and strive for service above yourself.”
