Mapungubwe kicks off

The MEC for sport, arts and culture, Merriam Ramadwa, officially opened the Mapungubwe Arts Festival at the SABC Park on Monday morning.

POLOKWANE – The MEC for sport, arts and culture, Merriam Ramadwa, officially opened the Mapungubwe Arts Festival at the SABC Park on Monday morning.

The festival kicked off with a street carnival lead by a brass band, cultural performances and an art exhibition at the SABC Park.

The festival will host week-long activities, which will end with a gospel festival on Saturday and a jazz festival on Sunday.

Ramadwa welcomed all the artists who would be visiting the city for the festival.

“We guarantee a great week full of activities and festivals.

“We apologise for postponing the festival in December last year due to the passing off Nelson Mandela.”

Artists who are in the line-up for the gospel and jazz festivals include Mafikizolo, Mi Casa, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Uhuru, Deborah Frazer, The Soil and Selaelo Selota.

Tickets for both festivals are available at Computicket at R60 per person for the gospel festival and R100 for the jazz festival.
