Maxine wants to become mayor

"I would like you to meet the upcoming mayor of 2021, who is just as vigorous, vibrant, hard working and passionate as the current mayor, Freddy Greaver."

POLOKWANE – “I would like you to meet the upcoming mayor of 2021, who is just as vigorous, vibrant, hard working and passionate as the current mayor, Freddy Greaver.”

This was part of Maxine Mamogobo’s speech during the handover of bursaries from the Mayor’s Fund at the Peter Mokaba Sports Complex on Friday.

A gr. 11 Mitchell House College learner, Maxine wants to be mayor one day.

To get an idea of what it was like to be mayor, she approached Polokwane mayor, Freddy Greaver, and requested an opportunity to sit in on his meetings.

Greaver agreed and also gave her the opportunity to address guests at the bursary handover ceremony.

“I have always had an interest in politics and want to deliver services to the people. My first option is to study politics after school and I am certain I will do well in politics, because I am open-minded and have a big heart,” said Maxine.

Greaver complimented Maxine on her speech.

“I was impressed to receive a special visit from this smart young lady. I asked her to prepare a speech for the handing over of these bursaries, which she did. I think she aced it. Maxine is intelligent and I think she has a good chance of being a future leader,” Greaver said.

Maxine’s mother, Naume Kavhanda, described her daughter as dedicated and hard working.

“She is committed to everything she does, and I think she would make a wonderful leader in future. I support her in everything she does,” said Kavhanda.
