PRESENTED by Polokwane Pedallers, the KFC Add Hope XCO Mountain Bike Race will take place on May 11.
The race will start at 08:00 on the municipal grounds bordered by Ster Park and the Thornhill Estate on the road between Polokwane and Modjadjiskloof.
The event is a Limpopo qualifying race and will constitute the trials to select the Limpopo team to participate in the National Championships later this year. It is also one of three qualifying races that cyclists are required to participate in to be considered for Limpopo colours.
The course for the KFC XCO Mountain Bike Race is 6km long and it is mandatory for cyclists to complete at least one lap.
The quantity of laps vary according to the age categories, with the younger cyclists required to complete one lap, while the older cyclists are required to complete six laps.
The race is considered to be more technically challenging than the ordinary mountain bike races and the duration is shorter.
The cycling rules applicable to the event are those of Cycling South Africa as published on their website, www.cyclingsa.com.
Participants who do not hold a full licence or membership need to purchase a day licence, which costs R35.
Entry costs R120 for adults and R20 for learners, with a R1 000 prize up for grabs for the school that enters the most learners.
Add Hope by KFC, which supports 90 beneficiaries and feeds over 40 000 underprivileged South African children monthly, will benefit from the race.
All funds raised through the competition number will be donated to Add Hope and a percentage of the entry fee will also be allocated to the overall fundraising initiative for Add Hope.
