POLOKWANE – Schools in the city have an action plan to combat the academic backlog caused by the number of public holidays and school break in April.
Tom Naudé Technical High School will have extra classes in the afternoon until 15:00 for all the grades.
At Westenburg Secondary School, some teachers made arrangements with the learners for classes during the holidays from 10:00 until 13:00 and extra classes after school.
Taxila Secondary School has holiday school with gr. 11 and 12 learners, which is compulsory for gr. 12 learners.
The school also has afternoon classes from 14:00 until 15:30. The aim is to catch up, as well as to ensure enrichment.
Willie Schoeman, principal at Hoërskool Pietersburg (PHS) says they did a survey last week and the school is up to date with its academic progress.
“Learners who missed academic time due to sport had classes on Monday and Friday during the school’s extra classes. There were also classes after school and before sports practise.
“We are fortunate to have a group of expert personnel and children who realise the importance of academics,” Schoeman explained.
