Hospital grounds a filthy mess

Visitors to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital have expressed their disgust at the state of the hospital grounds over the past few weeks.

POLOKWANE – Visitors to the Pietersburg Provincial Hospital have expressed their disgust at the state of the hospital grounds over the past few weeks.

Maryna Storbeck, a recent visitor to the hospital, complained to Review about the growing heap of trash on the hospital grounds. “One would expect a hospital to be a clean and hygienic place, a place where the sick can get better. How will they get better if the grounds look dirtier than a pig sty?” she questioned.

Department of health spokesperson, Adéle van der Linde, said the waste lying on the hospital property carried no health risk.

“It is not close to patients and it is not organic or medical material. It is a remote area of the hospital grounds and the removal of the rubbish is done timeously on week days.

“The hospital has not had any problems with refuse becoming unmanageable.”
