TWENTY learners from Khapakhapa Primary School in Majozi village outside Giyani will now go to school in full school uniform after Rixaka Funerals donated uniforms to them recently as part of their campaign to give back to the community.
The learners come from poor families, and most of them did not have school shoes.
The principal, Daniel Mabunda, said the donation would help the learners and give them a sense of belonging.
“Without uniforms, they were just children with no identity. We’re very grateful for this contribution to improving the lives of our learners. We hope other private companies will follow in Rixaka Funerals’ footsteps,” said Mabunda.
The mother of one of the beneficiaries, Elizabeth Ngoveni, said she was very grateful that her child finally had full uniform to wear to school.
“I didn’t know how my child would cope this winter without school shoes. Thank you Rixaka Funerals,” she said.
Rixaka Funerals CEO, Eric Makhuvele, said the donation was not the only charitable initiative that the company was involved in.
“There are a few other charities we have donated our services to as part of our social responsibility programme. We have been involved in many charity donations in the past and are still planning more ahead,” he said.
“We recently helped to bury three destitute children from Thulamela free of charge after they burned to death inside a house. That, for us, was part of giving back to the community that supports us.”
Makhubele said the company planned to increase the budget it normally set aside for charity to cover even more destitute families in the future.
“We have had many requests in the past where we were asked to contribute with our services. This is why we felt it was necessary that we increase our budget,” he said.
