Posters still in every street
Almost two weeks after the elections have been finalised, campaign posters can still be seen throughout the city, in spite of the municipal by-law stating that posters should be removed within three days of the event's conclusion.
POLOKWANE – Almost two weeks after the elections have been finalised, campaign posters can still be seen throughout the city, in spite of the municipal by-law stating that posters should be removed within three days of the event’s conclusion.
Municipal spokesperson, Matshidiso Mothapo, said the election posters still being up was in violation of the Provincial Gazette of July 3 2009, point 15 and 23, in which is stated: “All posters, backing boards and cords or strings shall be removed within three days of event taking place,” and “All posters or notices in a particular street shall be mounted at the same height above ground level,” respectively.
Mothapo said municipal by-laws should be respected by everyone, irrespective of who they were. “The municipality is in the process of taking down all illegal posters. Guilty parties can be held liable to pay fines,” Mothapo said.
ANC provincial spokesperson, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said the ANC was in the process of removing their posters.
DA Limpopo spokesperson, America Ngwepe, said the DA was in the process of removing their posters and would be finished by the end of the week.
By the time of going to print, no response in this regard had been received from the EFF, ACDP, or NFP.
