POLOKWANE – It is a sad reality for learners, parents and teachers at Noorderland High School that Arrie Bouwer, who has been the principal of this school for over 12 years, retired as principal of the school.
Bouwer returned to the school last month after a life changing operation that saw his leg amputated after struggling with a knee problem for over four years. He retired at the end of April and recently moved to Brits in the North West with his wife.
The school held a farewell dinner for him at the school’s restaurant recently, and learners formed a guard of honour as a farewell gesture. They also said goodbye to him at a recent school assembly.
In his farewell speech, Bouwer said it had been a good 12 years, but that it was time for him to retire and rest. “I am going to miss the school dearly; it has become a part of my life for so long. All of you have become a part of my life and I will miss you. I want to encourage learners, parents and teachers to work together in making the school even better. Make sure all learners get the best possible results at the end of the year.”
