POLOKWANE – Following the retirement of Arrie Bouwer, Piet van Rensburg has stepped in as acting principal of Noorderland High School until the department of education appoints a new principal.
Van Rensburg has been acting principal of the school since January. He has been with Noorderland High School for 34 years and taught accounting, business studies and economics from gr. 8 to gr. 12 learners for most of these years.
In 1987, Van Rensburg was appointed head of department for two subjects, life orientation (then known as career guidance) and business studies. For the past 13 years, Van Rensburg has been teaching only one subject, business studies, to the gr. 10 to 12 classes.
In 2001, Van Rensburg was appointed as deputy principal of the school.
“It is a very big responsibility to be the principal of a school and there are a lot of things, and people, to take into consideration when making decisions. Moving to the office from the classroom, one misses teaching and the learners. I enjoyed my business studies classes,” Van Rensburg said.
“Mr Bouwer did a lot here at the school; the personnel miss him and his 12 years of experience as principal.
“The learners also miss him a lot; they had a good relationship with him and he will forever be a part of us and the school,” Van Rensburg concluded.
