POLOKWANE – Review recently caught up with Nare Moabelo, one of Tom Naudé Technical High School’s top matriculants for 2013.
Nare is currently a student at the Tshwane University of Technology in Pretoria, where she is studying metallurgical engineering.
“I enjoy it a lot even though it is quite challenging. Engineering is what I’ve always wanted to major in,” she said.
She said being a student is not at all what she thought it would be.
“There are so many responsibilities that nobody ever warned me about such as the fear of letting yourself and everybody around you down. Perseverance is very essential.”
Nare said she felt like quitting a lot of times.
“I even thought of changing courses at one point because I felt cornered and felt as though metallurgy was not for me, but whenever I wanted to quit I always thought of the saying: ‘quitters never win and winners never quit’. I now know the real meaning of this saying and the excitement of building your future and knowing that every moment of tears and no sleep will all be worth it at the end,” Nare said.
She said she was doing exactly what she wanted to do.
“It was always a choice between mining and metallurgical engineering, but metallurgy was always my first choice.”
For Nare, the worst thing about the student life is the pressure of being your own person and the sleepless nights. “My favourite subject is still physics, although it is more of a challenge now, but it is still my strong point compared to all the subjects I’m currently doing.”
