ANC Umkhonto we sizwe veteran, Ike Maphoto, has appealed to the people of South Africa, especially the youth, to emulate Madiba’s ideals and refrain from disrespecting their elders.
Maphoto was addressing hundreds of people during the Mandela lecture held at the Aganang Municipality on Monday morning. He said Madiba was never selfish and he gave a helping hand to the poor.
“It is upon our shoulders to continue with his legacy. South Africa is now the most wonderful country to live in because of Madiba’s ideals. He appealed to the people to take Madiba’s legacy by offering help to the needy.
“Mandela loved and respected all the people irrespective of their colour and background. Mandela and fellow comrades did not fight the Apartheid government to give young people the opportunity to insult their elders whenever they wish.
“His soul will rest in peace if the young people of today take education seriously and don’t destroy their future by smoking nyaope and drinking too much alcohol.
“The youth of today have no respect due to a lack of the very education that we fought so hard for to be offered free to all our children,” Maphoto said.
