POLOKWANE – Intellectually impaired learners in the province are preparing to take part in the South African Age Group Games, which will be held in the city from September 15 to 19.
Limpopo will be represented by 205 learners in various sporting codes, and learners from across the country will participate in athletics, cross country, basketball, futsal, and netball. Futsal is a variant of football that is played on a smaller field and is mainly played indoors.
The athletics will be held at the Peter Mokaba Stadium from September 15 to 16, while the cross country will be held at the Polokwane Show Grounds on September 17.
Basketball and netball will be held at the Seshego basketball and netball courts, while futsal will be held at the Ngoako Ramatlhodi Indoor Sports Complex on September 18 to 19. Entrance is free for spectators.
Learners will be selected in futsal and athletics to represent the country during the international games next year.
According to Richard Lebepe, the public relations officer of the Limpopo Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired, the association is busy putting all systems in place to ensure the tournament is a success.
