Muni encourages reading, writing with donation

MAKHADO mayor, David Mutavhatsindi donated school uniforms and books to learners from disadvantaged homes during the launch of a Read-a-thon campaign that was held at the Elim community hall last Friday.

MAKHADO mayor, David Mutavhatsindi donated school uniforms and books to learners from disadvantaged homes during the launch of a Read-a-thon campaign that was held at the Elim community hall last Friday.

He encouraged learners to read and write. He told them that the Makhado Municipality would always support them in their education. Mutavhatsindi handed over books and uniforms to learners from Masungulo Primary School, the Rivoni Society for the Blind, Elim Primary School and Shihlobyeni and Elim High Schools.

“Learners should cultivate a culture of reading. All the leaders who you see, including myself, were products of education,” he said.

“The Makhado Municipality has partnered with the Makhado Public Library to support learners to master their reading skills. The contribution the municipality is making in education will make a huge difference,” he said.

“Currently there are 15 small libraries in the Makhado municipal area. We are aiming to establish small libraries in all 38 of our wards,” he said.

The learners were filled with joy as they each ascended the stage to receive books and school uniforms, including school shoes, socks, trousers, skirts and shirts.

They promised Mutavhatsindi that they would produce good examination results at the end of the year.

Mutavhatsindi also donated blankets to 20 learners from Rivoni Society of the Blind.

The move was also praised by senior traditional leader, chief Njakanjaka Hasani Mkhari. He said he fully supported and appreciated the municipality’s efforts in promoting education.
