LEARNING and teaching conditions at Mamathieledzha Primary School outside Thohoyandou have improved significantly since the donation of a fridge, microwave, water coolers and kitchen shelves by Nedbank Thohoyandou.
The donation, worth over R12 000, was handed over last Monday.
“We learnt about the poor conditions and learning difficulties when we visited the school to do a presentation on our bank’s products. We realised the school was one of the disadvantaged schools; there was no clean water, no computer, and the staff room building was falling apart,” Nedbank Thohoyandou manager Sammy Munyai, said.
He said the issue of not having clean drinking water was one of the biggest concerns, Munyai added.
“We advised the school principal to submit a letter to the company requesting a donation, and the company approved the request. Nedbank funds disadvantaged communities and poor learners to so that they can realise their dreams. We also help poor learners with school uniforms and shoes,” he added.
School principal Mmbangiseni Nengwenani said he was thankful for the donation, and hope that learning and teaching would continue to change for better. “I am very pleased for my school. I urge other companies to do what Nedbank is doing for needy schools,” he said.
Other donations made by Nedbank included a manager’s desk for Mananani Primary School, kettles for Vhembe Orphanage Home Centre in Tshino outside Thohoyandou, and office chairs for Thinashaka Secondary School in Tshivhilwi village.
