Pupils learn ropes of entrepreneurship

THE Nedbank 4me Entrepreneurship Days programme is based on four principles, namely spending, saving, growing and good.

This was according to Vanessa Singh, Nedbank executive head of retail and business banking marketing, who added that the programme would go a long way towards helping leaners prepare for a better tomorrow.

Singh spoke at Eureka Primary School in Lebowakgomo on Friday. The programme was launched in 2012. Nedbank will once again deliver money management and financial fitness principles to over 200 schools in Gauteng, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and the Eastern Cape.

“We are delighted to once again bring the 4me entrepreneurship days programme to Polokwane, building on the progress achieved since its inception. To date, the programme has reached over 30 000 learners, helping them to encourage an entrepreneurial culture and financial fitness principles.

“As a bank for all, we understand that our role in society goes beyond just banking; as such, we continue to invest in various development based programmes aimed at young people,” Singh said.

She said the programme delivered curriculum aligned content on entrepreneurship and financial fitness, developed by using educational material.

“Each school will receive a kit, enabling teachers to incorporate the material in the school’s curriculum and teach learners how to start their own business and manage their own money in a fun and exciting way.

“The kit includes guidebooks for teachers, and workbooks for learners designed to teach them how to start and run their own business are also included,” she said.

Certificates will be awarded to the learners on successful completion of the programmes. The criteria for awarding the certificates will be evaluated based on how much the learners spent, the amount they saved, their contribution towards good causes and plans for potentially growing their business, she explained.
