Learners from rural schools in Limpopo attended a holiday school at Mitchell House from October 6 to 10, where they received extra mathematics and science classes.
This was an initiative from Anglo American, which sponsored the 53 gr. 12 learners.
Oscar Chopamba taught science, while Tiri Takawira taught mathematics.
The learners attended classes from 08:00 to 16:00 every day.
“Before we had boarding facilities at the school, we would not have been able to take part in this initiative, because it would have been too expensive to get the learners to the school and back to their boarding facilities.
“But now that we have boarding facilities, we are fully equipped to help,” said Andrew Cook, headmaster of Mitchell House.
“We are very excited to learn more about science and maths. It is very nice that the teachers wanted to teach us,” said Kholofelo Moloto and her friend, Zola Nkosi.
Andries Thobejane said he obtained high marks and is one of the top three learners in his grade at his school.
That is why he was chosen for the holiday school.
