Clampdown in Giyani’s CBD

ANY building that was built illegally in the Giyani central business district (CBD) will be demolished by the Greater Giyani Municipality.

ANY building that was built illegally in the Giyani central business district (CBD) will be demolished by the Greater Giyani Municipality.

This follows after the municipality applied for and was granted a court order to demolish illegal structures.

Greater Giyani mayor, Pat Hlungwani, said any shack or building that was built illegally in the municipal area would be demolished.

“Nothing will be left standing if the building was built illegally. It will have to go,” he said.

He asked residents to comply with the municipality’s requirements if they wanted to erect structures in the CBD or anywhere else to avoid having their buildings demolished by the municipality.

“Some of these buildings are so close to the road that they create congestion in the CBD,” he said.

Regarding people who had settled on residential sites that had not been approved by the municipality, Hlungwani said they would have a discussion with the local headmen and chiefs to ascertain how this would be dealt with effectively.

Buildings such as this one could be demolished by the Greater Giyani Municipality as it is built too close to the road.
