THOHOYANDOU – LEARNING and teaching at the rural Dididi Primary School outside Thohoyandou is set to improve after the donation on Friday of a mobile library packed full of books.
A former learner of the school, Thomani Mathabi, who is a sales manager of Roymec Technologies, a Gauteng-based company, decided to uplift the standard of education from his previous school by donating the mobile library.
“Our company is targeting the previously disadvantaged schools in Limpopo and Gauteng, and Dididi Primary School was identified as the first in Limpopo to benefit. We have also donated the same to Alexandra Primary School and we are targeting primary schools with the understanding that they are the foundation of proper education,” Mathabi said.
During the handover, Christmas really came earlier for the learners when they also received toys as gifts.
Dididi Primary School principal, Tshisamphiri Mathabi, was delighted. “This far exceeds our expectations, and will be remembered for many years to come.”
Risuna Mthombeni, a gr. 7 learner, said reading the books that were donated would also help them to increase their vocabulary. “Our minds will expand and have knowledge because reading is also enjoyable.”
