SLC proudly green

Stanford Lake College (SLC) recently received the Green Flag Award for 2014 after the school met the Eco-Schools Green Flag requirements.

POLOKWANE – Stanford Lake College (SLC) recently received the Green Flag Award for 2014 after the school met the Eco-Schools Green Flag requirements.

This award followed the Silver Award the college won in 2011 and 2013, and the Bronze Award they received in 2010.

According to SLC marketer, Rona McGaffin, the award was based on diverse criteria. She said the focus was on learners’ involvement in environmental projects, and on school management providing a framework and setting that underpinned participation of the school community in environmental conservation and protection.

She further explained that SLC was assessed by a team from the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (Wessa).

“This independent, external assessment gives credence to our claims of being an environmentally conscious organisation. Our actions in this regard have been recognised as credible and meaningful by the achievement of this award,” she said.

Wessa is a South African environmental non-government organisation with a mission to implement high impact environmental and conservation projects that promote public participation in caring for the earth.
