POLOKWANE – Matriculants had mixed emotions about the matric results that were announced on Tuesday.
Review spoke to the learners from Hoërskool Pietersburg (PHS) and Noorderland High School to find out what their reactions to the matric results were and what they planned for the future.
Noorderland matriculant, Dineo Keshebang, said she planned to study medicine at Medunsa and already missed school as last year was the best year she ever had.
“I was surprised when I received my results. I thought I would do well, but never thought I would end up with a distinction. My mom was so proud. She hugged me so hard I could not breathe,” Dineo said.
Molebogeng Mahibila, also from Noorderland, said she could not hold back tears of anxiety as she waited for her results. She did not expect any distinctions and was very surprised when she received a distinction in life orientation.
“You know you studied hard, but there is so much tension while you wait for the results. My only outlet was to cry,” she said.
Edwina Bopape of Noorderland said she felt unsure, as she had not received her results yet when Review spoke to her.
“Hard work pays off, but the anticipation makes this day so much more stressful than any other,” she said.
Another Noorderland matriculant, Temosho Masekoameng, said he felt relaxed while he waited for his results.
“I take life as it comes and know what will happen will happen no matter what I do. I look forward to see what I have achieved and to celebrate with my friends,” he said.
PHS matriculant, Erick Snyman, said he was not at all worried about his results and was glad to be done with school.
“Twelve years of school are now over, but I want to become a teacher, so I will be back soon,” he said.
Anja Maree, also from PHS, said she was enrolled at the University of Pretoria to study accounting. She said she was lucky, because many of her friends would go to the same university and she would still see them.
“I was nervous to find out what my results were, even though I studied hard. It is difficult to wait and see how things turn out in the end,” she said.
Twins Su-Mari and Biemond Hoogenboezem from PHS said they would both follow careers in the health sector.
“We were very blessed to bring home 14 distinctions between the two of us and, although we have been working hard, we believe that the biggest gift we ever received from our parents is a faith in God that could never be taken away from us,” Biemond said.
