KHAISO High School’s top 10 matriculants received cash prizes on Friday to congratulate them on their excellent results.
Parents, learners, the school governing body and personnel attended the event at the school in Seshego.
Tim’s Gardening Services (TGS), a landscaping and construction equipment hire company in Seshego, donated R20 000 to the school as part of the company’s project to motivate gr. 12 learners.
TGS director, Timothy Maphinga, thanked the top 10 matriculants who made them proud.
“The top 10 matriculants received R2 000 each. They can use this money for transport costs or registration fees. This year we increased our donation to R25 000, because we believe that we have to invest in education,” Maphinga said.
He said he promised this year’s gr. 12’s that he would give them each R2 000 if the school achieved a 100% pass rate at the end of the year, “no matter how many of them there are”.
Chairperson of the Forum of Limpopo Entrepreneurs (Fole), Victor Makhura, also attended the event and said the forum members wanted to encourage Khaiso High School’s gr. 12 learners to take their education seriously.
“We pledge to add R10 000 to the R25 000 donation that TGS promised. We believe that this incentive will increase the school’s performance,” he said.
Nomadlozi Tabane, one of the top 10 matriculants who received R2 000, said he was very proud to be under the school’s best performers.
“I spent a lot of time on my studies, because I wanted to win that prize to help pay for my studies. The exams were very challenging, but I refused to give up. I challenged myself to work harder, because I wanted to win that money,” she said.
Khaiso High School principal, Peter Gweba, thanked the matriculants for their hard work and TGS for the generous donation.
“The new, larger donation will certainly encourage learners and personnel to work very hard this year. We obtained an 88% pass rate and are rated as the second best school in Seshego. This year, I want a 100% pass rate. The pledges by TGS and Fole should be enough motivation for all the gr. 12 learners to excel in this year’s exams,” he said.
“Soon we will be the best school in Seshego.”
