NEVER in the history of Pax College, a former missionary school in the region of Ga-Mashashane, has their record books looked so impressive.
Last year, a teenager from Ga-Magongoa village put the former catholic school on the Limpopo education map. Lesibana Mmatli, (18) rewrote the history books when he earned seven distinctions in the final gr. 12 exams.
Lesibana was named third best student in Limpopo and he obtained distinctions in Sepedi, English, life sciences, life orientation, geography, mathematics and physical science. He achieved 100% in the final exams for both mathematics and physical science.
Describing the moment that he heard about his third place in Limpopo, Mmatli said he thought he was dreaming.
“I honestly thought I would eventually wake up soon and realise it was just a dream. I continued to pinch myself and it dawned on me that this was far from a dream, it was real. It was a dream come true after months of dedication and hard work.”
On Monday, Lesibana began his new academic journey as an actuarial student at the University of Witwatersrand.
The only son of an accounting teacher, Alice Mmatli, explained that his matric work was testing.
“My achievements are the fruit of hard work and dedication. I paid attention in class and studied for about six hours every day. I intend to carry on in the same spirit at university,” he said.
