POLOKWANE – The Westenburg police surprised learners from Good Hope Primary School with gifts during their back-to-school campaign last Wednesday.
The school’s gr. R learners received colouring books, the gr. 1 learners received lunchboxes, the gr. 2 learners received board games and the gr. 3 to 5 learners received rulers and pencils.
Good Hope’s gr. 6 and 7 learners received pencil cases.
The South African Police Service logo and contact details were printed on each item.
Capt Radzilani Nemavhola from from the Limpopo police’s external communication and exhibition department, said the gifts was their way of giving back to the community and building a strong relationship with the learners and educators.
“We are handing out gifts to the learners so that they know the police are there to help them and are their friends. The board game is very educational, because it teaches learners what different crimes there are and what they can do to help combat crime. It also educates the learners on what is wrong and right. The game is similar to snakes and ladders,” Nemavhola said.
Cindy Buys, school principal thanked the police for their support.
“We have a good relationship with the Westenburg police. They are always there when we need them and we receive regular visits from them where they give our learners safety tips. The learners appreciate the gifts,” she said.
