POLOKWANE – With the new academic year well into its second month, this year’s school leaders have taken up their duties.
Review speaks to some Christian Achievers Academy prefects about what it means to be a leader.
Lebogang Muthapo says leadership means being disciplined in everything you do. “I enjoy being a leader as I was taught to be the best in what I do and to be disciplined in all my actions,” he says.
Unathi Ledwaba says being a leader means being a responsible person.
“You are now responsible for setting an example to others and you must be one who takes responsibility for your actions and words,” she says.
Gloria Grant says she thinks it is important to follow rules and to have a system in place to punish learners who do not comply.
“Learners need to learn to respect the authority a leader and to follow their instructions,” she says.
Imologang Moralane says being a leader means encouraging others.
“I need to be a good example and set the bar high for the other learners in the school. For example, if there are papers lying around I need to pick it up myself and encourage others to do the same,” she says.
Brandon Makanganga says being a leader is all about helping others.
“You need to be responsible enough to understand that you are also a caretaker and that other people depend on you for a wide range of things,” he says.
Pearl Mashaba says being a leader means being the best you can be.
“We are all still learning and, as I expect other learners to listen and learn from me, I need to listen and learn from them and my fellow leaders,” she says.
