POLOKWANE – February is the month of love, with Valentine’s Day being on February 14.
Review visited local pre-schools Mickey and Minnie, and Werk en Wen to find out if the children knew what Valentine’s Day was all about, as well as who they loved the most.
Salani Ndleve said he loved his mommy and daddy a lot because they hugged him and packed him a yummy lunch for school. “But I don’t know what Valentine’s Day is,” he said.
Jordan Gashawbeza said Valentine’s Day was when a person showed someone else he or she loved him or her. “I love my mommy and daddy the most.”
Although he admitted that he had a girlfriend, he did not want speak about his secret love.
Tatenda Mhingu said she did not know what Valentine’s Day was. “I love my teacher very much, because she always helps me,” Tatenda said.
Masana Nemokoyhani said Valentine’s Day was a day of love, and she loved her mommy and daddy because they gave her food and a “small baby toy”.
Leago Marokane very shyly told Review that she liked Salani a lot, while Erika Rupping said she loved her mommy and daddy because they always bought her ice cream and fun toys. “I also help my daddy to buy clothes for my mommy when it is a special day,” she said.
“I love my girlfriend two times,” Mpho Mthembu said, who did not know what Valentine’s Day was.
Padi Motuku said Valentine’s Day was present time, and he planned to buy his girlfriend lots of chocolates and ice cream on Valentine’s Day.
“Valentine’s Day is a fun day with lots of love and nice gifts,” Migael Moulder said. He added that even though he and his brother fought a lot, he loved him very much.
Wiané van der Walt pointed to her heart when asked what Valentine’s Day was and said she loved her mommy, daddy and brother just because she wanted to.
