THANKS to a generous donation by Samsung South Africa, the learners at Mabake Secondary School in Rathoke village near Marble Hall will now benefit from an interactive learning environment.
The learners and personnel say they cannot thank Samsung enough for the new Samsung Smart School Solution unit that they received recently.
Samsung’s head of corporate citizenship, Pitso Kekana, says this donation is part of Samsung’s initiative to reach out to schools that have little or no access to information and communications technology.
“This donation is the realisation of a partnership agreement between Samsung South Africa and the Amandebele A Moletlane Traditional Council.
“The aim of the donation is to offer learners and teachers access to an interactive learning environment to enhance the quality of education,” says Kekana.
“The Samsung Smart School Solution enables learners and teachers to benefit from a broad range of educational related information on mobile devices. The solution consists of the latest software, realtime content sharing features, and an opportunity for interactive engagement for both teachers and students. This allows teachers to keep track of a wide variety of information on the learners’ screens.”
Kekana says Samsung South Africa chose Mabake Secondary School, because Rathoke village is a disadvantaged rural community with little communication with the outside world.
“We realised that this community has no access to any internet facilities. That is why our Smart School Solution can make such a difference here. We want to make a positive impact on the whole community by offering learners a better education,” he says.
Kekana explains that they donated 41 tablets, 40 for the learners and one for the teacher, to this school along with an e-board, a printer and internet connectivity.
Mabake principal, William Themane, says his team of teachers work very hard to overcome all the challenges that the learners in the school have to face every day.
“We are humbled and honoured to receive such a great donation at this level of technology. The Samsung Smart School Solution will help the learners to access resources that they would never have been able to access before,” he says.
Themane thanks Samsung South Africa for their donation and says the learners will now have a better chance of succeeding despite their backgrounds.
