Mafikizolo visits Westenburg Secondary School

POLOKWANE – Mafikizolo, a South-African singing duo consisting of Theo Kgosinkwe and Nhlanhla Nciza, visited Westenburg Secondary School on Thursday.

The reason for their visit was to motivate learners to stay in school and to promote the importance of education.

This was part of the Violence Against Children awareness campaign, an initiative by national departments which included social development, basic education, justice and constitutional development, arts and culture. Other partners involved in this initiative are the Mandela Foundation, Hot Sauce Productions and the district municipality.

The awareness campaign will be hosted in six cities which include Polokwane, Tshwane, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. Kgosinkwe motivated the learners to adopt a culture of reading, which will give them more knowledge about what is going on around them and develop their minds.

“I challenge you to pick up a book at least once a day. This will improve your mind,” Kgosinkwe said.

He also encouraged the learners to dream and to work hard toward reaching their dreams. “If you don’t have a dream, you won’t have interest or passion for anything in life. It is important that you identify what your dream is and not make the mistake of living someone else’s dream. Find what you are really passionate about and follow that dream, but remember education must be your foundation on which you build your dream. Education is important, therefore work hard in school and after finishing gr. 12, go to university and continue your studies,” Kgosinkwe said.

Nciza motivated the girls to delay having babies while in school. “First establish yourself financially and emotionally. Have money, be educated and think independently. Depend on yourself and not a man. Through education you empower yourself.”
