POLOKWANE – Eleven learners and two of the personnel from Stanford Lake College (SLC) participated in the Munnik Meerkat Challenge on Saturday, March 21. The main objective of the race was to raise funds for the restoration and development of Munnik, thereby creating a wonderful historic railway village.
The race was also aimed at creating employment and empowering local communities, through community projects and private enterprise and again to create an awareness of the wildlife areas surrounding Munnik.
The race was presented by members of the Munnik Farmers’ Association in collaboration with P&L Cycle Club.
SLC marketer, Rona McGaffin, said learners and personnel did very well in the challenge and the school was proud of them.
She added that the 35km and 70km races were qualifiers for Limpopo colours, and these races had to be completed under a specific time for the athlete to qualify.
The 10km and 3km events were fun rides and as such were not timed races.
