Westies gr. 12’s get extra classes

Review asked some of the learners how they have benefitted from the classes, how the extra classes helped them with their preparation for the exams and whether the extra classes were worth sacrificing their holiday for.

POLOKWANE – Over the Easter school holiday gr. 12 learners from Westenburg Secondary School attended extra classes to help them prepare for the mid-year examinations that starts in June.

Review asked some of the learners how they have benefitted from the classes, how the extra classes helped them with their preparation for the exams and whether the extra classes were worth sacrificing their holiday for.

Kimberly Zulu said the extra classes were very beneficial as learners were behind with work in some subjects and used the time to catch up.

“Now we are on track and all that is left is revision before the exams start,” Kimberly said.

Kamogelo Sethosa agreed that the extra classes were beneficial and said: “It was not just teachers from our school who offered the extra classes; teachers from schools in other circuits also came to help us with various subjects. We are now ahead of the syllabus and have more time to revise.”

Mathew Maupye said the extra classes were definitely worth giving up the Easter school holiday for.

“The teachers had more time to give us individual attention where needed, which is not always possible during school hours. The teachers also had more time to focus on specific points that we did not understand,” Mathew said.

Khutso Mashaphu also agreed that the extra classes were worth the sacrifice.

“Sometimes when I study at home I don’t understand the work and then there is no one to help me, but with the extra classes I could ask the teacher to explain to me.

“The extra classes also gave me something constructive to do during the holiday.”

Mokgadi Pheedi.

“There was a lot of group work that we did and the atmosphere was very relaxed; we felt comfortable and free to ask questions when we did not understand the work,” Mokgadi said.
