Political prisoners to be released – PAC

THE Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) will march to the provincial police offices to hand over a memorandum of their grievances on Friday.

LIMPOPO – THE Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) will march to the provincial police offices to hand over a memorandum of their grievances on Friday.

The march concerned political prisoners who were arrested during the apartheid era and had not yet been released, some of whom were incarcerated in prisons in Limpopo. According to Phala wa Phalakatshela, PAC provincial secretary, there were more than 100 people who had been arrested and had not been released to date. He said these people were regarded as terrorists during the Apartheid regime.

“It has been a long time that the PAC has been calling for the release of these political prisoners. We believe that this time the government will respond positively,” Phalakatshela said.

He added that the prisoners were in various prisons around the country where some of them were sentenced to life imprisonment. He said if the government did not release the prisoners, they would have to take another route that would ensure their release. “Secondly the PAC would like to express disapproval of all xenophobic attacks. These people are our brothers and sisters from the continent. The PAC believes that Africa belongs to the Africans. We are all Africans irrespective of the colour of our skin,” Phalakatshela explained.

The march is expected to commence from the park opposite the SABC at 11:00.
