THE Seshego police are investigating a case of murder and an inquest docket after a police official allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend before committing suicide.

SESHEGO – THE Seshego police are investigating a case of murder and an inquest docket after a police official allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend before committing suicide.

Seshego police spokesperson, WO Mothemane Malefo, said Const Hamilton Molatelo Mokobane, who was stationed at the Motetema police station in the Sekhukhune area, shot his girlfriend, Phuti Constance Lehong before turning his firearm on himself.

Malefo said the tragedy occurred last Monday but their bodies, which were almost decomposed, were found last Thursday.

Earlier during the week, the police opened a missing persons docket after the couple could not be traced by their relatives, Malefo said.

Lehong, who was working for a popular chicken outlet in Polokwane, was living in a rented a room in Seshego zone 3 while Mokobane lived in Luthuli Park when he visited Seshego.

“After opening a missing persons case, a search party was dispatched and because Lehong’s cell phone was on, we managed to trace the signal. The signal directed us to a secluded location just next to Luthuli Park where we discovered their lifeless bodies next to each other.

“From what we have gathered, Mokobane shot Lehong and then himself,” Malefo explained.

Malefo called on residents to report missing people immediately.

“If a person is missing, it is not a criminal offence but we will appreciate it if the person can give a valid reason for his disappearance.
