POLOKWANE – The Westenburg Community Police Forum (WCPF) bought four two-way radios, which will be used to fight crime in Westenburg.
The WCPF held several fundraisers in the community and the money raised at these events was used to buy the radios.
The radios will be used by the men who patrol Westenburg at night.
The patrolling members are divided into different groups to ensure all streets in Westenburg are patrolled.
Each group has a team leader and the team leaders are in charge of the radio in every group.
Allister Loubcher, WCPF chairperson, said: “The radios will help us communicate with each other especially when a suspicious person or movement is noted.
“We can also call for back up in case of emergency and there will be immediate response by the other teams. I will have a central radio with me, to monitor all communication between the teams and when a crime is reported, I will contact the police and give information to them to follow up.
“We would like to thank the community for their support thus far, and invite them to continue to support the WCPF as we fight crime in our community to make it a safe place for all.”
