LIMPOPO – MORE than 40 learners from Muhuyu Primary School outside Thohoyandou will no longer go to school barefoot thanks to the school’s former learners who donated shoes.
The shoes were presented to the learners last Tuesday.
“We used to come to school barefoot because our parents could not afford school shoes. We took education seriously and we now have jobs.
“We wanted to change these children’s lives for the better,” said one of the former learners, Mphedziseni Ratshivhadelo.
Ratshivhadelo said together with some former learners, they were disturbed to hear that some learners still went to school barefoot.
“I came from a poor family as well, but taking education seriously has paid off because I work well today. We urge the learners to concentrate on their school work so that they can change the lives of their families for the better,” he said.
Ratshivhadelo added that they also donated sanitary towels to the girl learners at the school.
The principal, Khuthadzo Khoza, was thankful to the former learners for their generous donations.
“We have orphans and poor children in the school and it is sad to see them come to school barefoot,” said Khoza.
