Path to right career with exhibition

"THE career you choose must suit your interests and abilities, otherwise you will not succeed" Nkhangweleni Dama, an educational pschychologist at the University of Venda's (Univen) centre

LIMPOPO – “THE career you choose must suit your interests and abilities, otherwise you will not succeed.”

This was the advise Nkhangweleni Dama, an educational pschychologist at the University of Venda’s (Univen) centre for higher education, teaching and learning, gave to gr. 12 learners who attended Univen’s career exhibition last week.

The week-long exhibition saw learners from over 150 secondary schools in the Vhembe district receive career information from various universities, technical and vocational education and training colleges and private colleges.

“The aim of hosting the career exhibition was to help gr. 12 learners choose careers and to encourage them to apply to institutions of higher learning on time,” said Takalani Dzaga, Univen director for communications and marketing.

The deputy vice-chancellor: operations, Dr Jan Zaaiman, encouraged the learners to apply to study at Univen.

“As a comprehensive institution, the University of Venda offers a range of undergraduate and post graduates qualifications in the field of study that are responsive to the developmental needs of the South African region regions using appropriate learning methodologies and research. We hope the exhibition will go a long way in helping learners choose the right career path to better their lives and that of the communities they live in,” said Zaaiman.

One of the learners who attended the career exhibition, Lutendo Mulele of Tombolagole Secondary School in Tshitavha-Sambandou village, said the exhibition was an eye-opener for her and other learners.

Mulele said she planned to study towards a degree in nursing science at the University of Venda next year.

“Now that I have more information about where to study, about bursaries and loans and which career to choose, I will encourage others to study hard during the course of the year so they can realise their dreams,” said Mulele.
