LIMPOPO – MISS Deaf South Africa 2013, Lefa Manamela, spoke to the learners of Fulufhelo Special School, based in Thohoyandou Block G, on Friday at their Casual Day launch. She encouraged and showed them that they can still follow their dreams. She told them that being disabled does not mean you are unable.
Manamela said she wanted to motivate and uplift the learners. She told them that no one has the right to look down on them and they should not let their disabilities stand in the way of their dreams.
She told them that achievements in life are not always determined by beauty and looks, but more often by brains and their belief in themselves.
“I am completing my IT diploma at PC Training and Business College in Pretoria, it is all about determination and not looking down on yourself. We want to encourage the disabled learners to take education seriously, you can reach the sky despite being disabled,” she said.
The Principal of Fulufhelo Special School, Amos Siaga, said the day formed part of the fundraiser for Casual Day and that he is very glad that Miss Deaf South Africa 2013 took the time to come and show the learners what she has achieved despite being disabled. This really gave the children a new spark.
“We encourage the local business owners to help us raise funds to lay the foundation for their dreams by giving them a good education. We want to implement some developmental and educational programmes, but this can only be done with funding from the community. Our school is an affiliate for Casual Day,” said Siaga.
