Westenburg hit and run case to resume on Monday

Esmerelda Delport hopes justice will prevail in the hit and run case in which her 16-year-old daughter Shannon Sacco, died.

POLOKWANE – Shannon was knocked down by a vehicle on Ben Harris street earlier this year, allegedly by a 23-year-old man.
The Gr 11 learner was the rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended by the police.
Initially, the family of Sacco was not happy with how the case proceeded because one of the suspect’s family members works for the court.
Esmerelda says since then things have turned around for the better.
“We were advised to put our complaints on paper and after we wrote a letter to the chief magistrate, things changed. I think that is also the reason why the case was moved to Mankweng,” Delport said.
According to Delport even after the tragic loss of her daughter she still managed to forgive the suspect.
“Right now I just want justice to prevail. This is not about getting revenge because nothing will bring my daughter back. I have forgiven him. It really doesn’t matter what sentence he gets,” Delport said.
The suspect will appear in the Mankweng Magistrate’s court on Monday.
