One held for truck hijacking in Limpopo, Gauteng, Kwazulu-Natal
The estimated value of the retrieved merchandise is around R2 million says the police
LIMPOPO – The Provincial Tracking Team conducted a sting operation at a house in Musina last night (Wednesday) wherein a 30-year-old Ethiopian businessman was arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods.
Preliminary investigations revealed the goods, consisting of 111 boxes of Soviet shoes, are believed to have been stolen from trucks hijacked in Gauteng and Kwazulu-Natal.
528 boxes of Nivea body lotion believed to have been stolen from a hijacked truck in Germiston was also confiscated; along with 67 boxes containing DVD players,10 boxes of wristwatch batteries and five Hisense cellphones suspected to have been stolen from retail stores: Dunns, Pep and Ackermans.
In a statement, LT. Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says they believe the syndicate involves hijacking goods vehicles and redistributing the goods to other business people across the country.
The estimated value of the retrieved merchandise is R2 million, including a vehicle expected to have been used in the hijackings.
Ngoepe says they expect to make more arrests while the Ethiopian national arrested in the incident will appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court soon. Police investigations are continuing.
