29 students injured in Limpopo crash

29 students sustained minor injuries after the bakkie transporting the students collided with a sedan outside Giyani on Monday.

LIMPOPO – The accident occurred in Malamuele outside Giyani said Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moartshe Ngoepe.

All 29 students from Xihlovo Primary School sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The  exact cause of the accident is still unknown, however a case of reckless and/or negligent driving has been opened.

This comes almost a week after the transportation of learners in the goods compartment of a vehicle for reward was declared illegal.

This is in terms of Regulation 250 of the National Road Traffic Act (NRTA). This regulation is aimed at improving the safety of passengers on the back of bakkies. Read more From 11 May, transporting children in the back of a bakkie will be illegal
