Cyril Ramaphosa devotes his #67minutes for Madiba to the children of Mookgophong

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa officially opened the Ramadimetja Sophia Mogotlane Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre in Mookgophong today, 18 July.

MOOKGOPHONG – The establishment of the ECD centre was instigated by Deputy President Ramaphosa on World Tuberculosis (TB) Day who encouraged the building of such facilities in areas with a high TB rate, with a particular focus on children under the age of five.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa officially opened the Ramadimetja Sophia Mogotlane Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre.

The pharmaceutical company, Cipla South Africa, which manufactures world class generic medicines at affordable prices, answered Deputy President Ramaphosa’s call. He handed over the building on behalf of Cipla.

The ECD centre can accommodated 124 children and will afford children an opportunity to develop through play and other creative activities such as age-appropriate computer skills. The centre will also improve the health and wellbeing of children through access to adequate nutrition and health services. This will ensure that children meet the normative developmental milestone of being able to read, write and count when they start school.

The handover took place on Nelson Mandela Day, celebrated by devoting 67 minutes of the day to doing good in the community.

Deputy President Ramaphosa was accompanied by the Premier of the Limpopo Province, Stanley Mathabatha, the Mayor of Mookgophong and members of the Provincial Executive including Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Health, Phophi Ramathuba, MEC of Health in Limpopo.

They were accompanied by traditional leaders and other dignitaries.

Deputy President Ramaphosa’s first stop was at the Mookgophong Service Centre for the aged where he planted vegetable seedlings in the garden before the handover at the ECD centre.

At the centre, he and the other dignities rolled up their sleeves and painted the guard house on the site.

He also met with the staff and children where he handed out schoolbags and gifts.
