A massive manhunt has been launched following the escape of seven awaiting trial prisoners from the Lebowakgomo Police cells early yesterday morning (Wednesday).
According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo the escapees are considered dangerous and some of them were awaiting trial for crimes such as murder, rape and armed robbery.
“They escaped by cutting open the roof in one of the cell blocks,” Mojapelo said. At the time of going to print none of the escapees had been rearrested, he confirmed.
The wanted men are Thabiso Maleka (30), Lucas Chuene (30), Motswiri Mohahlele (25), Tshepo Maja (39), Mpho Ledwaba (33), Frans Maponya (19) and Piet Mashaba (19). Anyone with information can contact the Station Commander Margaret Kgwedi on 082 451 7229.
