A 14-year-old girl reported missing by her parents last week was found by Police in a shack outside Seshego and a 37-year-old male suspect allegedly responsible for abducting and raping was also arrested on Monday.
According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe the Seshego Cluster Commander Samuel Mokgonyana activated a team of detectives and members of the crime prevention unit to embark on intensive investigations into the missing person’s report.
On Sunday Police, in response to information received from community members about the girl’s possible whereabouts, visited a shack in an extension outside Seshego where they found the girl, according to Ngoepe.
He added that the suspect had already fled the scene but was quickly traced and arrested at his hideout in Seshego on Monday morning.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the girl was allegedly repeatedly raped during the time she was abducted.
The suspect is facing charges of rape and kidnapping and was expected to appear in the Seshego Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.
Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Jan Scheepers commended the cluster commander and his team on a job well done in cracking such a complex matter within a short space of time.
