Two traffic officers were in for a nasty surprise when they allegedly found themselves being robbed by five armed suspects who they had pulled off for violating the speed limit outside Marble Hall on Friday afternoon.
According to Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe a manhunt has since been launched for the suspects but no arrests were made as yet.
He indicated that the officers were conducting a speed trap along a road at Slaagboom outside Marble Hall when they pulled off a Volkswagen Polo for speeding. The vehicle had five occupants and displayed no licence plates, according to Ngoepe.
While the driver was being issued with a fine, three passengers exited the vehicle armed with rifles and a pistol. They robbed both the traffic officers of two cell phones, a firearm and the speed camera before fleeing the scene, according to Ngoepe.
Anyone with information can contact investigating officer Richard Boshomane on 079 894 5501 or report to the nearest Police station.
