A 33-year-old male suspect was expected to appear in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court earlier this week on charges of manufacturing drugs and being in possession of unlicensed ammunition following his arrested on the outskirts of the town on Tuesday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe indicated that the arrest was made during an intelligence-driven joint operation which comprised the Tzaneen Cluster Crime Intelligence Unit, Tzaneen Crime Prevention Unit and the K9 Unit.
The operation resulted in the discovery of an alleged drug lab in a house on a smallholding just outside town.
During the process of searching the lab a high quantity of dagga and mushrooms, in a processed stage, were discovered. Three live rounds of shotgun ammunition were also confiscated, according to Ngoepe.
The estimated value of the recovered drugs is about R200 000.
This milestone achievement comes after the arrest of another suspect, aged 62, for a similar crime in the Tzaneen Policing area in February. Drugs estimated to be worth R500 000 were confiscated then.
Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Jan Scheepers applauded the Police for their commitment in the fight against the escalating of drug related crime across the province.
