More arrests are expected pending ongoing investigations following the apprehension of four alleged drug dealers in Hillbrow, Gauteng on Friday. Limpopo Hawks in collaboration with national law enforcement structures made the arrest and confiscated drugs to an estimated street value of R1,5 million.
Limpopo Hawks Spokesperson Matimba Maluleke indicated that the arrests follow an intensive investigation that ensued in the province, responding to a public outcry concerning the mushrooming of drugs in the area. It led to the arrest of the alleged kingpins in Gauteng.
He remarked that a joint operation led by the Hawk’s Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in collaboration with Police Crime Intelligence Unit, Limpopo Tracking Team, Priority Crime Specialised Investigation Unit, Provincial Organised Crime Unit, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department and security and tracking companies followed up all possible leads which led them to an apartment in Hillbrow where the suspects were arrested.
During the arrest big amounts of drugs, two drug mixers, two scales, two laptops and an undisclosed amount of cash were confiscated.
The suspects were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on Monday but an update on the proceeding could not be obtained at the time of going to print.
Maluleke reiterated that more arrests can be expected pending on-going investigations.
